Doom Tourism: Valiant MAP04 - Moonlit Stroll

Hello, Son

It's time for more Valiant action. please indulge me while I do another goofy experimental form of this. This is the last one like this, I promise. Last week, Doomguy sent a letter of his travails to Doommom. This week, Doommom is responding! Isn't family wonderful?

MAP04 - Moonlit Stroll

Song: River.midi by Stewboy

Hello, Doomson. I received your letter. I think we're in the same area. I just cleared that map you were in a few days ago. Sorry to see the demons just came back like that. After all my hard work... I suspect that means you'll be here in this cave area soon. Please use my letter as a guide to get through it safely. I wouldn't want you to get yourself killed.

The vines might grow more by the time you get here, but there's a shotgun directly in front of your starting location. Pick it up.

Right past that are a few assorted demons. Shooting them with the shotgun is your best bet. You'll also notice a blue key door and a yellow key gate. I know you have trouble with gates sometimes, but if you just take your time with it you'll be fine. Remember this area for later.

To the right of that area is a little nook with some Mancubi. The shotgun isn't the best for dealing with them, but I'm sure you've been practicing with it like I showed you. If you just remember the combat drills, these guys should be no problem.

Plus, you'll be rewarded with a double-barreled shotgun. Hopefully your shoulder still doesn't get sore from the recoil. I put some extra padding in my armor because this thing kicks like a mule. Naturally, picking up the shotgun will unleash a horde of demons.

Deal with them however you see fit. I opted for double-barreled justice.

Past that is a nook with a Berserk pack. If you don't need the health immediately, just save it for later. You won't need to punch anything unless your aim is awful.

Once you progress a little, you'll find this outdoor area with the chaingun. How do you feel about this upgraded chaingun, son? I'm quite fond of it. I taught you how to tap fire the chaingun to shoot enemies far away, right? It's a useful tactic.

Make your way up the side here and you'll find a button to press. Back when you were just a doomchild you loved pressing buttons. Do you still love pressing buttons?

Before you do, though, you may want to get the rocket launcher. It's on the right of that button. Pressing the button will almost certainly release monsters to fight.

Like I said. Button = Demons. Shoot them until they die.

This is what that button did. It revealed this path, guarded by an Arch-Vile. He can't leave his nook, so just pump a few rockets into him.

Past the Arch-Vile is the blue key. It's perched over that first area, letting you get to the blue key door pretty swiftly. Just hop down and take care not to land on anything sharp.

The blue key door opens up into an interior base being patrolled by zombie men. You know how to deal with these guys by now, I'm sure.

Here we go, this is what I've been waiting to show you. Flying tentacle demons. They're fragile, but the shoot plasma bolts that really pack a punch. Keep an eye out for them and don't let them swarm you. They really startled me the first time I saw them.

You'll make your way to an elevator leading to a higher floor of the base. Elevators are the worst. Even a small one like this triggers my acrophobia. Stay safe, son.

At the top of the elevator is a door leading to a grassy courtyard. It almost reminds me of home, that time demons invaded our house. Good times. Was that the first time you fired a shotgun?

The courtyard has its share of awful baddies to gun down. I really like these concrete fixtures with the plants in them. I wonder if the demons bought them like that or if they made them by hand. Demons are surprisingly good gardeners.

I didn't mention this earlier, but when the arachnotrons die, they pop out of their metal robo-leg unit to fly around like the ones I showed you before.

After this rather soothing stroll, you'll find the yellow key behind a door. Grabbing it involves hitting a switch and shooting some monsters. Don't let them catch you with your pants down.

This wraps around back to the blue door, which was right next to the yellow gate. The only thing left to do is step onto the teleporter to the next zone. I'm setting a bad example for you by not killing all the monsters, but I had some poor luck scrounging for ammo.

       Please be safe, son.
